A Little Something to Hold It All Together!

Thanks for stopping by Creative Shelters! The ball tie you took home is a simple, reusable fastener: a loop of rubber bungee cord attached to a plastic ball. It’s made for stretching tarps tight on canopy frames, and it’s handy for bundling, hanging and securing all kinds of things around the house, yard and shop.

How to Use Your Ball Tie

Here’s the classic job: fastening a tarp to a canopy frame tube through a grommet. Loop, wrap, secure.

How the loop and ball work together

The elastic loop wraps around whatever you’re fastening, and the ball locks it closed. The two strands of the loop work as a pair: they go through the grommet and around the frame tube together, then the loop slips over the ball. The ball can’t pull through the stretched loop, so the cord keeps steady tension and holds the tarp taut.

To release it, pull the loop back over the ball. Nothing to tie, nothing to cut, and you can use it again and again.

  1. Step 1: Push the loop through the grommet. The ball stays on top of the tarp while both strands of the loop go down through the grommet.
  2. Step 2: Bring the loop under the tube. The doubled loop goes down, under the frame tube and back up the other side.
  3. Step 3: Slip the loop over the ball. The loop comes back over the top and is pulled over the ball to lock it.
  4. Too loose? Wrap once more. Add one extra turn around the tube before securing the loop over the ball.

Tips for the best fit

  • Pick the right size for your frame. Your free tie is a 6″, the size we suggest for 3/4″ and 1″ frames.
    Ball tieSuggested frame size
    6″3/4″ and 1″
    9″1 3/8″ and 1 5/8″
    11″1 7/8″
  • Use one at every grommet. Start at the corners, then fill in along the sides so the tension stays even.
  • Snug, not maxed out. Leave a little stretch in the cord so the tarp can flex in the wind.
  • Keep your face clear. Point the ball away from you while you stretch the loop, in case it slips.
  • Check them now and then. Replace any tie that looks cracked, worn or stretched out.

Why Quality Matters

We sell premium-grade ball ties because we’d rather you buy a tie once than keep replacing it.

High-grade rubber bungee

Our premium ball ties are made of high-grade rubber bungee material connected to a plastic ball.

Steady tension

A good ball tie keeps constant tension on the tarp, keeping it taut instead of loose and flapping.

Built for outdoor use

Canopies live outside. Better materials hold up to sun and weather, and black ties tend to last the longest against UV rays.

Reusable, job after job

Hook it, release it, use it again. A quality tie keeps its stretch season after season.
